It had been a spontaneous idea of her and even though she had thought about it for quite a while she had never found the time to put it into practice. She had been biking along the street next to the beach, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the refreshing scent of the sea she knew so well. She had always liked being brought up in Miura. Sure, it wasn’t the most exciting city of Japan and she was quite positive that not many foreign tourists were paying this little place much attention, but she still enjoyed it here.
She knew that they weren’t living in the greatest area of the city and she knew that they were poor, but she still liked their tiny house at the sea even though it was hot in summer since their air conditioner didn’t work anymore and it was cold in winter because neither the windows nor the door were really well isolated. It had always been her shelter though, her real home. There were so many happy and so many sad memories attached to it.
She wasn’t heading home though but to the city centre. She was hoping to find a job there somehow. It was the perfect time since Yamato could stay at Kindergarten until 6 in the evening and Yuuki loved to stay over his best friend after school. Hinako wanted to finally seize the gained free time to get herself a job. Niichan and Touchan were already working so hard for their family, she couldn’t drop out any longer.
Sure, she had done a few little jobs in the past like doing groceries for an old lady or babysitting but she never had a steady job like Niichan did. Her payment had been far less than her brother’s due to that and she didn’t really had any chance to help out their family with that. She wanted to change that now, crossing her fingers that she would be able to find a job in town somewhere.
She knew that the shops were sometimes looking for students to attend little jobs for them. The payment wasn’t that bad as far as Hinako knew.
She was nervous when she thought about having to have a job interview though since she was a really shy and insecure person. Her brothers would have denied that though, but Hinako was in fact not exactly very outgoing when it came to strangers. She had needed quite some time to warm up to her brother’s friends, especially since they were even older than their Niichan and Yankee’s after all. She quickly had learned though that Wataru and Ryosuke both were very kind and nice guys. While she had Wataru always seen as her second older brother – her aniki as to say, she had to admit that she had had a little crush on Ryosuke at first. On the other hand she guessed that most girls did since he was quite well when it came to words and charming girls.
She knew though that he always saw her as ‘Nippori’s little sister’ and she still thought his compliments were quite nice but she didn’t take them seriously anymore. Actually she thought she’d been quite embarrassing back then when she had gone all nervous and blushing because of what he had said to her. She felt way more grown-up by now.
She got off her bike and started wheeling it since quite a lot of people accused you of trying to kill them when you were biking in the city centre. And Hinako didn’t really feel like being accused of murder today. Or ever.
Actually she had no real plan in her mind how to approach this. She just kind of had remembered all the signs hanging in the shop windows during the summer holidays. She didn’t have the time back then to apply to anything but had noticed all of them. Now all she could make out were the normal commercial signs telling you why exactly you had to enter just this shop.
It wasn’t like Hinako was aiming for anything special, she was ready to take any kind of work she could get.
Pretty desperate, she thought to herself while grimacing. All her enthusiasm had left her and all she could feel right now was some kind of disappointment and frustration. She guessed that she had pictured the whole job thing way too easy. She knew that Niichan himself was sometimes looking for a job for days or even weeks but she had guessed that he was maybe picky or that he as a boy couldn’t work just anywhere. On the other hand she as a girl couldn’t either.
She was trying to picture herself on a construction site – something Niichan had done for a while. Frowning, she tried to imagine some kind of job being suited for her. Maybe working in a clothing shop. Giving advice to grumpy old ladies what to wear... Would she be any good at that? Would she be any good at... anything?
Hinako stopped dead in her tracks, shaking her head violently. This was stupid! Now she was getting herself down. She was supposed to suppress her insecurities and not to build them up!
She would do well in the job interview! She would get the job she would be applying to!
Even though there is none at the moment, she thought sarcastically before sighing and shaking her head again.
It may didn’t look too well right now but she was a Nippori after all! They didn’t give up so easily! She had to try and give her best!
Niichan is giving his best everyday. He is giving his all at tumbling. I should try and be like him.
She remembered very well when her brother had been forced to ditch tumbling practice and school to finish up the rush order their Touchan had accepted just before having to be hospitalised due to a breakdown. Her older brother hadn’t only done this to get them all money but especially for her because she had been having a field trip by that time and he had wanted her to go because she was taking care of the house all the time.
She had been feeling so bad back then, especially when he had a fight with Wataru and Ryosuke because of her.
They were maybe poor when it came to money, but Hinako was positive that they were very rich when it came to other things. She thought they were a quite happy family. Sure, there were fights and sometimes she just wanted to strangle Keiji for being mean to her and sometimes they were scared because they weren’t sure if the money would be enough to get them through. Still, they always stuck together. That was the reason why everything always worked out smoothly in the end. They were always there for each other, no matter what!
She could feel the smile spreading over her face. Yes, for her family!
“Yush!,” she shouted not exactly very girl-like while pumping her fist into the air. Blushing, she noted that several people were staring at her. She quickly made her way to the next street to check out the shops in there. Maybe she would be lucky since the shops were so crowded in that place...
She had to park her bike somewhere beforehand since it became quite unhandy having to wheel it all the time. Plus if there was really a sign hanging somewhere she wouldn’t be able to just storm into that shop. Aiming for the nearest bike rack she could find, she parked it there. Even though she was positive that no one would steal that old thing, but to be sure she secured it with a lock.
Now she was ready to go on the hunt for a job! She looked around, trying to find out in which direction she should rather head. She decided to go to the right first since in this part of the street were quite a lot of shops. Checking out a few windows for any signs – and actually also sometimes items she had spotted there, Hinako wasn’t very lucky.
Staring intently at a really cute looking bag, she suddenly noticed a reflection in the window. Someone was standing behind her... Frowning she turned to face said person.
